Hucknall Town were frustrated by the weather again at the weekend as their highly anticipated clash with league leaders Aylestone Park was postponed due to a frozen pitch.

This was the second time in four days that the weather had foiled Hucknall, after their home match against Grantham due to take place last Wednesday (18 January) was also postponed.

The Yellows were due to travel to Leicestershire for a 3pm kick-off on Saturday (21 January) but after an overnight frost the game was called off early in the morning to prevent the visitors from enduring a wasted trip.

Both sides informed their supporters via social media, with Aylestone retweeting a post from their chairman John Greaves which as well as containing pictures of their frost covered pitch, read: "Unfortunately after a hard frost last night our pitch is frozen and today's game has been postponed."

Hucknall were quick to inform their supporters, posting the words: "MATCH POSTPONED Our match at Aylestone this afternoon is postponed due to a frozen pitch."

The match had looked the pick of the Uhlsport United Counties Division One fixtures set to take place at the weekend. On first glance at the table, Aylestone look like runaway league leaders with an 11 point advantage over second place Bourne Town. The gap to fourth place Hucknall is 15 points, however, Andy Ingle's side have three games in hand.

There has been a rivalry bubbling between the two sides for some time. Last season, the pair were locked in an intense battle for the final play-off place which Hucknall ultimately came out on top of on the final day of the season.

This season, after good starts from both sides, it looked like they would be battling for automatic promotion. An ill-tempered meeting between the pair, in what was the final ever first team league match at Watnall Road, ended in a disappointing 2-0 defeat for Hucknall.

No doubt this weekend would have seen Hucknall determined to avenge that defeat and put themselves firmly back in the title picture with a win.

The match will now be rescheduled for later in the season and will in all likelihood be moved to a weekday evening.

Hucknall's next scheduled fixture takes place on Saturday (28 January) afternoon as they welcome Clipstone FC to The RM Stadium.
