Craig Westcarr's late strike was enough to give Hucknall Town a narrow home win over Birstall United on Saturday (20 August).

The win not only saw The Yellows inflict the first defeat of the season on the Leicestershire side but it also moved them into the play-off places for the first time this campaign.

Predictably the game was a tight affair as Birstall who began the day second in the league, with only goal difference keeping them off the top, proved difficult to break down.

However, with the game seemingly heading for a stalemate, Westcarr, like he did on so many occasions last season popped up with a crucial goal.

His initial shot proved too powerful for the opposition goalkeeper to hold on to and the veteran striker was the quickest to react, poking home the loose ball to send Watnall Road into raptures.

Hucknall have very little time to enjoy the victory though as they are back in league action tonight when they visit struggling Clipstone at The Lido Ground. The game kicks off at 7:45pm.
